Review of Prior Meeting Minutes – Don Shupe

  • Minutes from December’s meeting approved. (Note: January 2005 meeting was cancelled due to inclement weather).
  • The Action registrar was reviewed and updated. Closed items include Alliance Brochure, Alliance Manual, and Kathy has approved moving forward with “Career to School” Video Conferencing.
  • The Steering team has completed the Alliance Manual update. The only outstanding items are adding the logo, some formatting and to determine the number of copies to be printed.

CDC Review - Jane Dodge

  • The “Meet your Alliance Members” featured Don Shupe, and Kelly Constantinetis in January and February. Upcoming speakers in February and March will include Jim English, Charlie Nobles, Leslie Hubbard and Mike Cranford. If anyone else is interested in speaking for a 1 hour and 15 minute segment, please let Jane know.
  • Charlie Nobles participated in an information interview with ADHS student David Ragan who will attend NCSU for Engineering.
  • The Futures for Kids meeting was February 11, 2005 where Athens Drive was recognized for having the largesr number of students in the state participating. Next year, F4K will add a career development feature that will layout a four-year graduation plan for students. Mike Cranford added that F4K has been a great resource for businesses to tap into local resources.
  • The National Technical Honor Society Induction ceremony and reception will be March 31 st at 7pm at ADHS. The NTHS recognizes students who are taking technology courses and excel in these courses. Funding for the cost of the cake, certificates and a $20 induction fee for students who are unable to cover it is needed. Please email Joy or Jane if you can contribute.

“Make it Real” design project update – Kelly Constantinetis
The Alliance approved moving ahead with the Make it Real design and build project. Over the next school year, the Business Alliance will present to Rich Kromer’s classes of 36 students a project (a kiosk that needs to be movable, portable, able to be stored and networkable). A firm will hopefully come in to explain how they would go about designing and producing a project of this scope. The point of this project is to put some real world pressure on the kids (deadlines, budgets, working with clients, etc).

Assistant Chair Roles and Responsibilities - Don Shupe
Next year our Alliance will need an Assistant Chair who will become the Alliance Chair. The Assistant Chair's roles and responsibilities are explained on page 7 of the updated Alliance Manual. If you are interested in serving in this role, please email Don and he will discuss with you further.

Review status of team goals and objectives – Team Chairs
Team Chairs plan to review their annual plans to determine outstanding items and those already accomplished.
