Welcome and Introduction – Alliance Members and Chris Droessler

CTE Programs

  • Chris is the School to Career Coordinator from the Central Office. Chris explained how Career and Technical Education programs are funded and the process that is ongoing in the Legislature. The Carl Perkins Act funds 7% of total Wake County CTE, which is mostly used for supplies. State and local funding, along with various grants make up the remained of the career and technical education budget. Chris recommended writing Federal legislators on the need to support CTE programs

Review of Prior Meeting Minutes – Don Shupe

  • Review of minutes from February meeting postponed until April meeting. (Note: April 2005 meeting has been moved to NC State’s campus).

CDC Review - Jane Dodge

  • Jim English spoke to Betty Frederick’s Digital Communications class
  • Charlie Nobles spoke to Pat Moore’s Small Business Entrepreneurship class about Marketing
  • Mike Cranford spoke to Chris Danehower’s Career Mgmt Class on how to interview effectively.
  • Two speakers are needed in April – one on 4/13 and one on 4/27 .
  • Leslie Hubbard will speak on college internships and how they benefit the students.
  • March 3 rd marked the annual Wake County Career Fair, Xtreme Beginnings. Joy Frankoff participated as a primary organizer, Mike Cranford worked with students on interviewing, Amy Walker worked with career professionals round table discussions and Jane Dodge worked with other CDCs as Chair, Higher Education Exp.
  • BA members will be invited to the National Technical Honor Society Induction on March 31 st.

CTE Sucess Story

  • Jane Dodge and Doug Foster will highlight Drew Baird and Ashish Naran, 2004 graduates of Athens Drive , in interviews and articles. Drew is a business major at NC State and EMT supervisor for Fuquay Fire and Rescue Dept. Ashish is enrolled in the Aeronautical Engineering Program at Jacksonville State University in Florida . It will be great to highlight the successes of the students we’ve worked so closely with. Wayne will look into getting the articles published in the N&O.
