Introduction
Kathy introduced our newest member, Hal Hammond from the ESL department at Athens Drive High School .

SACS Accreditation and Report – Kathy Chontos
Copies of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (CASI) Public School Standards were distributed and reviewed briefly. The SACS review will be in March 2006. Some BA members could be involved in the site visit.

CDC Report – Jane Dodge
Jane provided an information sheet with news, forthcoming programs and copies of some of the team STP’s which were due today for review.

  • Recent activities: Jane has conducted “Futures for Kids” (f4k) workshops in CTE classes for over 400 students. She has arranged shadowing for several students after school and on teacher workdays: three elementary teachers, residential architect, Bio-Medical Engineering, middle school ESL teacher. A corporate architect is scheduled next week.
  • The F4k interest inventory was approved by DPI and awarded a large grant for implementation of the program throughout the state. Major F4k current goal is to increase the number of business email mentors/career coaches. BA members who are interested can register with them at http://www.f4k.org.
  • “Creativity Counts” Career Fair November 8 th, 10am – 12:00pm ADHS Gym. Six-foot tables are available. Each individual participating in the fair will need to bring a table cover.

Students’ Report

  • Wayne explained the importance of including a place on the agenda for the students to communicate their BA related activities and to provide input. Beginning in November this item will be added to the agenda.
  • Bradley reported that he had participated in a job shadowing activity with Ms. Hubbard at NCSU

Teams’ Strategic Plan Review
Jane led a review of 2005-06 team strategic plans. Due to the number of teams and the time constraint the STP’s were not discussed in detail.

The team reviews and some examples of activities were:

Membership—Don Shupe
    A BA social will be scheduled and Don asked for input from the members. Some other activities--
    identify potential gaps in membership and monitor BA attendance

Steering Team—Kathy Chontos
    The “Benchmarks of Team Excellence” self-evaluation will be conducted at the November meeting
     if it is received. Some other activities—update alliance handbook, develop process for creating
    and tracking annual objectives

Student and Career Development—Jane Dodge
     Career Fair, Mentoring/Shadowing, and Myers-Briggs workshop

Communication—Francis Shepherd
     Newsletter, Add PODCASTS to improved currency of communication, meeting minutes

Staff and Alliance Development—Edna Vann
     Assist faculty with classroom speakers, educate faculty on availability of speaker resources,
    track faculty use of speakers

Technology—Doug Foster
    PODCAST was also on the technology STP. They will work with the Communication team for
    this objective.
    Strengthen website, and public Internet wireless access to media center.
